Get to Know Us
With our main dojo operating out of Trout Lake Community Centre,
3350 Victoria Drive in Vancouver, British Columbia. Shohei Juku Canada (formerly known as Pacific Aikido Kensankai) was established to promote the art of Aikido as practiced by Morito Suganuma Sensei (Aikikai 8th dan). Shohei Juku Canada represents the Canadian branch of Suganuma Sensei's organization which is based in Fukuoka, Japan. In addition to offering Aikido classes to all levels of interested students
our dojo hosts a yearly seminar with Suganuma Sensei in Vancouver.
Tamami Nakashimada, Chief Instructor
Tamami Nakashimada Sensei began her Aikido training with Morito Suganuma Shihan at the Shohei Juku dojo in Fukuoka, Japan in 1978. She arrived in Canada in 1985 and became the Chief Instructor of Shohei Juku Canada. Nakashimada Sensei was awarded the rank of Rokudan i.e. 6th degree (or Dan) black belt in January 2014. She has continued her Aikido studies under the direction of Suganuma Sensei who visits the Vancouver dojo each year. Nakashimada Sensei is an inspiring and energetic teacher.
